Welcome to SeriouslyFish, the UK's brand-new resource for serious aquarists!

On this page you'll find some information about our story and what we hope to achieve with this project.

SeriouslyFish was born three years ago, over a somewhat beer-fuelled conversation around a kitchen table somewhere in Newcastle upon Tyne. Keen hobbyists all, we were busy berating the lack of decent online resources (except a handful of well-known specialists) for fishkeepers when one bright spark suggested we should make our own. Little did we suspect the work that would eventually be involved...

The idea was to make it easy for hobbyists to find accurate, comprehensive information on the species they keep. And to build a vibrant community of like-minded fishy folk, too. We wanted to build a resource that would help people to avoid the frustrations that we'd encountered.

We decided on our name because, well, we ARE serious about the hobby and it's important to us to be true to our own principles. As well as providing accurate, trustworthy information we want to create something we can be proud of. For us, this means a commitment to the responsibility that we believe is inescapable when keeping any animal in captivity as well as another matter close to our hearts, the global conservation of aquatic ecosystems.

Basically, we want to see our aquatic friends treated as we'd like to be treated ourselves.

Finally, a small disclaimer. Imagine the site is a new house (bear with us). If it were, it would look beautiful from the outside, but still unfurnished inside. We decided that for the sake of our collective sanity (or Duncan's, at least) we had to put this thing online. As a result you'll find that some of the knowledge base material is incomplete, amongst other things.

We hope you can be patient. We have loads of exciting stuff planned, but it might take a short while to get everything organised. In the meantime please enjoy the site, join our family if you fancy chatting to us, and love your fish!
