On the 20th April I'll fulfil an ambition held for a few years already and visit Turkey to look for Aphanius. :)

More details to follow but for now does anyone have access to, or know where I could find, Kordon breathing bags?

Hi Matt,

first, congrats to your trip! For how long will you be in Turkey??

Concerning the bags, perhaps have a look here:

http://www.aqua-lorenz.de/epag.....roducts/N1

http://www.fraku-aquaristik.de.....;shop_ID=1

http://www.garnelenbaron.at/Kordon

Afraid it's all German sites. If you need assistance, just let me know!! :-)

Regards

R.

Usually available on Ebay and Aquabid as well. Btw, I recommend using the smaller bags and just pack the fish one by one for best survival.

Happy fishing!

You might also want to stock up on paper towels. Wrapping breather bags in paper towels will ensure they don't come in direct contact with each other.

Cheers all, got some bags on the way. Here's a quick map showing the area we'll be covering, starting and ending in Antalya.

Well it's been a superb week. We've seen some amazing places, lots of cool fishes and not a single other tourist! Here's a quick and dirty shot of Aphanius splendens from Lake Salda, taken in a photo tank the other evening. Loads more to come!

Very nice Matt! Are they always that slender or is this a young specimen?

That's an adult male - they always look like this and live in huge schools around the lake shores, very different to all other Aphanius.

As I've heard the stone and spined loaches do so.

Don't want to speak to soon but yes some fishes are currently swimming around on my terrace, plus others made it to Germany.

Has estado allí también?

Sorry about the lack of updates here - I've promised not to post any pics until a magazine article about the trip is published. Confused

Awful pic but this is the first fry of Aphanius anatoliae 'Salda Gölu' brought back from the trip. These were young fish but now in full spawning kit and really aggressive.

Not awful at all Matt. ;-)

The little bugger is quite in focus and the suroundings seem to be exactly what they like!

Would be nice to see some pics of the "parents" once the deal with the magazine is done and dealt with. :-D
