Did they go to Marudi for the macs???If they are looking for it in Sibu ...i think they went to the wrong place /ohmy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":o" border="0" alt="ohmy.gif" />

hi Haji, they went to the places that other collectors had said had caught them, that failed.
so they asked the local people and again he couldn't find any, so as a last resort he asked for permission of the people in Brunei but was refused, so that was the end but he really enjoyed his trip and the people he met. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
i found out that he'd purchased 8 pairs from a shop i go to and since then he's bred quite a few of them.

Hi Mick,

Wild macrostoma can only be found in Marudi,Malaysia side and Brunei. There has been unconfirmed reports of collection from the Niah side,Malaysia.Brunei has banned collection and export of their wild macs.I however disagree with some that says that you get the death penalty if proven guilty for this offence. The sultan is quiet civilized and not that extreme!!! /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="Laugh" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

I was informed by some of the other collectors similarly. Most of the time these collectors give false and misleading info.I can understand their motive, there has been many cases of overfishing hence depletion of the aquatic fauna as a result. /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="<_ <" border="0" alt="dry.gif">

But knowing Mr and Mrs Brown, these are good people who are highly respected in the wild betta scene /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> .I hope to meet them someday.Let me know if they are interested again to see the wild mac biotope. /happy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="^_^" border="0" alt="happy.gif" />

Thanks.

will do Haji.
i knew he had got his name to the brownorum bud, he tells us every time he does a talk at the fish clubs i go to, his last talk at my local club was on the liquorice fish that your not keen on.
he had some fantastic pics of loads of different species, thats when he brought my brownorums as i asked him to bring me a couple of pairs.

mick
btw, his wifes the boss. /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="Laugh" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="Laugh" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Mick,

As i said in the other forum, the biotope of the brownorum is being destroyed here as well.First there was overfishing ...now the place is being developed for some project. /mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="mad.gif" />

The brownorum habitat is not far from the paros allani.Mind you,i do have some ...... (whispering: ... somewhere /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> )I ve also collected some sundadanio axelrodi (both blue/greenish and red variants) from the place.Very beautiful fish mate. /thumbs_up.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="thumbs_up.gif" /> /cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="B)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" /> I am setting up another tank next week just for these sundadanios. /happy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="^_^" border="0" alt="happy.gif" />

i've had the S axelrodi, blue form but not the red, i found them dilicate little fish but they had gone through the exporters and the flight time and then dumped into a tank, so i think i'd be abit delicate.
is the ruin of their biotope through deforestation Haji?.
the two main names i know from your country are jungle Mike and Kutching any chance you know them mate.?

Yup .... the blue green and red s.axelrodi i collected from Sibu, the same town Mr and Mrs Brown found brownorum. Most of the destruction due to land clearing for palm oil plantation.Every other states the same. /sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

Both names refer to the same guy ..ie Mike Lo.He comes from the same city as i am,ie Kuching. /happy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="^_^" border="0" alt="happy.gif" /> Yes i know him. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Haji is it illegal to export tank-bred macs from Brunei or just wild fish? I've heard that maybe some are being exported from there?

Didn't realise you lived in Kuching...for some reason I imagined you lived in the country somewhere... /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> Mike has kindly donated a couple of pics for our macrostoma profile seems like a lovely guy. /happy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="^_^" border="0" alt="happy.gif" />

I know some of the good mac breeders from Brunei /cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="B)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" /> .I am not sure of the export of tank raised macs from Brunei.I ll try to ask the fisheries official from Brunei later. /happy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="^_^" border="0" alt="happy.gif" />

just thinking Haji, i have a good friend in SG called Benny Ng who also knows Mike Lo, any chance youv'e met him.?
once funds are high enough i said to Benny i'd come over to SG to see him and the rest of the lads and that i would love to have a trip to Borneo, he said he would arrange with Mike to meet me at the airport and he'd take me on an excursion into the jungle.
I'm saving for that trip, hopefully i can do it before i get to old. /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="Laugh" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
