I got a (in my opinion) gorgeous Betta today.
He is doing well, liking his tank and feeding /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

As you can see I am not very good with the camera. To my defense it's my mobile phone camera. Pictures are taken without flash

He is lovely /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I did a water change, because I seem to have a second Nitrite peak..? The water change failed to redice the nitrite and nitrate. So I wonder if there is something in the tap water and will check that tonight.

He is really cute and comes to the front of the tank if I stand there and he sleeps in his little castle. Tomorrow I will get some more plants for him to hide in and I saw that Ember Tetras are good companions, so might get some if the water is back to normal levels.

Sofia, don't rush to get those tetras. Allow the filter to cope with the increased levels of organic waste produced by the fighter then think about adding new fish once things have settled down. This is one of the golden rules of fishkeeping; don't stock too quickly. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Yes, that was what I meant when I said that this was pending the result of the water /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
Thanks for all your help always.

I will get fish for teh bigger tank though tomorrow, as the water is fine and it has also been over a week now. I am tempted to get 3 Pelvicachromis pulcher, but I don't know if they'd be happy with my other fish. Will check the knowledge base /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

very nice looking beta.
Matt is right, letting the filter adjust is the main thing at the moment.

Thanks and yes I am. He is gorgeous and the tank looks lovely with just him in anyway. I will get a few more plants for him to hide in today though /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
And some live food, as he refuses to feed on flake food and only ever had bloodworm now /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Sounds like a good diet /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> Sofia I've taken the liberty of correcting the title of this thread. It'll make it easier for anyone searching for this species. Hope that's ok.

That's a lovely betta you have there Sofia /wub.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wub.gif" />

Have you tried him on a specialist betta flake like Tetra betta? In my limited experience of these fish, they don't tend to like normal tropical flake food, but stuff like the tetra betta goes down a real treat. Maybe it's because the flake pieces are pretty fine and small, or maybe it's the added dried shrimp lol. Mine is also partial to the pellets I put in for the shrimp, but these usually sink too fast for him to be bothered going after.

Of course that is fine, Matt. I am sorry, was so excited and typing fast /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Thank you Ulster Exile. I am really happy with him. he is active, feeding on bloodworm and will try live brineshrimp later on. He feeds all over the place. I put a few more plants in for him to hide in. Will post pictures after a water change /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I will also try to get Tetra Betta next time I'm in the store

lol, many bettas can be picky, but he needs more than bloodworm as nourishment. try attisons betta food/betta pro. i feed all mine on it and they do great.
send me a PM with your address in and I'll send you a few weeks worth, see if he likes it.

Does anyone know what type he is?

His colour has become even more intense and he is now happily feeding on Atkinson's. Thanks Keith /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

difficult to be sure, but i would say delta rather than veiltail, as his tail is more rounded than a vt.

That's the only one I've got, but tbh having popped into a Pets at Home in Coventry and seeing one, I got the fish bug.

A Betta splendens was my goal, but it seemed for a long time I would be unable to have one. And now he is the vocal point in my bedroom in his small 15l tank with an otocinclus as company.

I would like to set up a marine tank (so does the partner) in the future, but we need to move to a bigger house first /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
