I am about to up to a 55 or 75 gallon tank and then to a 110 gallon, and i was wanting some opinoins on if i should get these catfish, i have 3 pictus catfish and they can get up to 6-10 inches and i plan on getting 3 cuckoo synodontis and they get up to 6 inches and i also plan to get one four-lined pimelodus and he will get to about 9 inches......so do you guys think that is too many or to big of bottom dwellers and remember i'm getting them all when they are small and letting them grow together so its not like one or two big ones they all will be around the same size in the 55/75 then then i plan to keep them all in a 110 or maybe a 125 gallon for their adult lives.
Hey again CM. I don't think the size of the fish would necessarily be a problem in a 100 gallon tank, but their differing requirements could cause problems. The Synodontis come from Lake Tanganyika in Africa, where the water is naturally very hard and alkaline. The Pimelodus, meanwhile originate from much softer, more acidic waters throughout the Amazon and other river drainages in northern South America. I also think the fast-swimming, voracious pims would outcompete the Synodontis at feeding time.
Personally I'd choose one or the other and base the set-up around them. P. pictus are by nature a shoaling species and you could have a really impressive group in a tank that size.
