So finally found a male betta I want to breed with my yellow female. I kept him in the same tank with her for a day or two but separated so they wouldn't just fight but he attacked her. I think he wanted to mate but it looked really brutal. She also flares her gills at him when he starts it. She is so much smaller than him and doesn't really look like a male. What can I do to get them to cooperate. I don't have a heater in the tank and I was thinking that was the main reason. My acidity is at about neutral so regular fluquations from 6.9 to 7 aren't uncommon too.

Hi, have you conditioned both fish? What size tank are you working with? It sounds like they're not ready yet and when they're together, she doesn't have space to get away from him.
At this point, you have a few options. Keep using the same tank, keep them separated, condition them and wait until the male starts building the next (can take up to two weeks).
Alternatively, find a larger tank where she can get away from him and condition them in there, keeping a close eye on both to make sure that neither one is getting beaten up. In both cases it helps to have a fair bit of plant cover!
All that is assuming that you do have a female and a male, of course
I have them in a five gallon and I think that might be a bit small. I'm letting them out together today for a few hours so they can bash it out. I will separate them for a long time till like you said he starts to build a nest. He started to make one as soon as I got him but stopped the next day and I think that is normal. She is very full of eggs and has been in my thirty gallon for a bit so she isn't as weak as him who i assume has been in those tiny jars for a bit. Will keep everyone posted.
The male is deep blue and looks like a dragon scale and she is yellow with some very light blue on her fins. The male also has some blotches of different colors which I haven't really looked at. The babies will be very odd if I am successful. The female is a crown tail and the male is a Halfmoon if I remember correctly
