This is an interesting one discovered by Nikhil Sood (his photos, used with permission) at two undisclosed localities in India.

So is it a C. gachua variant or something else?

Just to add to what Matt has said. These chaps were held in the net just to show that the orange is not a breeding colouration. Fish only above 4" have this pronounced orange/red on the cheeks.

Cheers Guys,

Stefan the largest chap I have is from the first excursion. The largest chap would be about 5"-5.5". I had him in with 2 pairs of full size Channa bleheri in a 4ftX18"X12" and trust me he bullied the entire lot of the C. bleheri.

But I have around 15 of them now in the same size tank as above and the aggression is limited to just flaring and the one off torn fin but nothing really bad.

Cheers

Hi,Nikhil....

you are a friend of Ben,arent you???

He posted the pictures in a German board also.....

Very stunning and impressive gachua type.....

I know some other types of gachua with extremly red cheeks, but yours alos have these red spots on the lower jaw area......nice

I hope that someday a few of these will reach Germany.....

But I think because of the import problems from India,we have to wait.....as far as I know al snakeheads are banned from export/import at the moment, because of EUS.....

It is a shame!

Good luck with your fish!

Regards
Pascal

Hi Pascal,

Yes It was Benjamin and I that were on the trip along with a few non-fishy friends. These pics are taken by Benjamin as well. He posts on the German forums as its impossible for me.

I hope they make it to you all sometime soon.

Regards
