My pet Mayan Cichlid spends a lot of her time picking up gravel and blowing it out at the front glass of the tank. She has now totally wrecked the tank, all the plants have gone and the rocks are sitting on the bottom glass. Is there a purpose to this behaviour or is she just amusing herself.
Should I rebuild the tank so that she can continue amusing herself or leave it alone?
She has the 200 litre tank to herself apart from 6 sardinas (characins).

Has she stopped re-arranging things now?

No Matt, she keeps at it now and again.
When it is quiet and I am working on my computer I hear the chink, chink as the gravel hits the glass.
I sometimes think she is trying to get my attention and wants food. /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="Laugh" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
By coincidence the cross strut which stops the front and back glass from bowing outwards has just let go and the light fell into the tank, making the disaster complete. I had to empty most of the water to relieve the pressure and install another support. We took the opportunity to rebuild the tank. She does not appear upset but is busy excavating one of the caves again.

Caught in the act. /angry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="angry.gif" />
She stops work if she sees me so I had to take this photo from a distance with the zoom lens.
She managed to get the two large pieces of gravel immediately below her head, in her mouth, amazing.
