Thought I'd share these little beauties with everybody on board. These are pics of some of my fry when they were 4 months old. The fish is new to science and hails from the Rio Paraguay in Argentina. They are a cool water species whose behaviour is similar to most Corydoras. They are single pair spawners as opposed to the orgy that some corys participate in. Eggs are around 1.5mm in diameter.

That's a genuinely beautiful fish. Where did you get the picture, pablito?

As I have always said, I'm not a photographer, however this is one of my many poor attempts at fish photography. I will get better! /wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

This is one of the fry from last year who is now a full adult with full adult coloration.
I have had these spawn half a dozen times with between 20 - 50 eggs. Initially they spawned when they were in quarantine and the first I knew was when fry appeared out of a thicket of java moss. After that I started removing eggs and from then I had problems with fertility. Only a few were coming through so I went back to the perennial method of leaving the eggs with the parents and letting the strongest survive. I am trying, at present, to get somebody to do the species description but so far without much luck. Taxonomists appear to be either very busy, strangely lackadaisical or corys are not sexy enough to bother with.

I will find some time to get some adult pics. and post them for all to see.

Most species of Cory are fairly easy to sex once mature by the noticable differences in body shape. If they are not mature enough for this Iusually check the pelvic fin shape from underneath the fish . As you know, I'm sure, females cup their ventrals to form an egg holding bag during spawning. To facilitate this their ventrals are rounded, whereas the males do not have this adaptation, displaying pointed ends to their ventrals. This is not the case in all corys but this method can be used reliably in most. In the case of the Argy boys it was easy peasy as the females are like little tubs. /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="Laugh" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
In some others the dorsal and pectoral fins are elongated.

Very nice indeed Paul. /cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="B)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" /> When you say "cool water" what temperature are you keeping them at? Do you lower that even further to stimulate a spawn?

Hoping to see these little guys in the knowledge base soon. Thanks for sharing Pablito! /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Lovely looking fish /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Other than the cooler temperature, is care similar to other corydoras?

Mature, sensible signature required for responsible position. Good prospects for the right candidate. Apply within.

Care of these fish is totally the same as most other corys. Plenty of good food, good water and the right temp.

In the winter the tank they are in can drop to 60F but they are usually around 70F.
At the moment they are outside in a 40 gallon barrel along with some Otocinclus from Argentina, also. This is the first year I've put them outside and we'll see how they go.
