WOW!

My Dicrossus maculatus have just spawned in front of me!

Took loads of pictures.

Now the female is killing the male and I've got nowhere to put him! Doh!!

Great news mate /cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="B)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" /> How much did you drop the pH by in the end?

My tap water is coming out at 7.5 atm, pH in the maculatus tank is currently around 6.

There were fewer eggs this morning, and I'm not entirely convinced they'll hatch, but she's guarding them dilligently. I haven't removed the male from the tank, but the lights are off and my room is nearly pitch black - every time I've been in to have a look, she's simply been guarding the eggs and leaving the male alone, so I'll keep him there for the time being.

Although I have a spare tank, I don't have a spare heater or filter and don't particularly wish to take water from the maculatus tank as that would mean adding fresh water to fill it up, which would alter the pH rather drastically methinks.

I'm keeping details in a blog in our IC Matt /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Ahh I got in today and there are no eggs left on the leaf and she seems to have lost her breeding colours /sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

I'll try and induce another spawning shortly /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

A recurring problem for us both recently mate /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> Don't discount the neons eating them if they're in the same tank.

Sorry about your bad luck /sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> Keep up the good work and they will spawn again. I A S
Think of this as a heads up to get prepared (pH, food, raising tank, plans etc) thats if you decide to breed them again.
Keep us posted

Aye /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> They both seem like they're in condition so just a matter of time. They were displaying at each other a bit last night.

Hmm, I seem to be having trouble inducing them to spawn. The male is interested, but the female doesn't seem to be having any of it. The water is about pH 5.5 and they're getting a decent varied diet of frozen and dry foods...

Just leave them be a bit mate. It's only been a week since the last spawn /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
