That's an incredible looking fish. You must have a fairly epic collection oaken - where did you pick these up from?

Really beautiful wee fish and nice photography Gustav! /cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="B)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" /> Are you planning to breed these?

dunc: Ordered them from the wholesaler through my local fish store. Only seen them on the list twice. Seems like more and more fish from India and Myanmar are making it to the stores lately /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> And I suppose my collection is starting to look pretty good, noticed I had some Poecilocharax weitzmani fry the other day.

Matt: Yes, I'm going to set up a couple of breeding tanks for them, just unsure of how many females I have at the moment since nondominant males seem to take on the female colouration. Oh well, they are so small that they don't need big tanks at least, not as aggressive as Dario dario either.

Gustav you must post details of your weitzmani spawn! /cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="B)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" /> A species I've been after for many years and still never seen! Looking forward to hearing how you get on with the Dario too. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Well, I don't know if I mentioned that they spawned earlier, but that spawn didn't yield any free swimming fry. After that I hoped they would spawn again but I never noticed that they did, and now I saw 2 fry that were pretty big. Thing is that I have no idea how old they are!

And now the female has been very fat for a while but for some reason they aren't spawning again. Water values are: pH 4.51, 130us/cm, 24C.

It seems like I have at least 2 fish that are not Dario hysginon, but some other Dario species. I could be wrong though. Their body is longer and they don't have the same colours. First I figured that one of them was a big male D. hysginon, but it hasn't coloured up like the smaller D. hysginon males so it seems unlikely. Will have to separate them from the rest of the group and get some pictures.

Some Badis maybe? *scratches chin* Do you know if the Dario were wild-collected mate?

Yes, they are wild caught. The thing is they just look pale with a little red in the fins, like the D. hysginon does when they are scared.

I'm sure it's not a Badis though. They look exactly like the rest but just more stretched and very pale.

When I mentioned the pH of 4.51 I was referring to my Poecilocharax weitzmani-tank, sorry for the confusion.

I'm keeping the Dario hysginon in water with a pH of about 7.5-8.

Wow what's their natural habitat like then Gustav?

This is the info I have:

"Indawgyi Lake near Lonton
Dario hysginon

135 µS. GH 4, KH 3, pH 8.0-8.5, temp. 2 Celsius.

Yansyn near Indawgyi Lake
Badis corycaeus, Dario hysginon

54 µS, GH 1, KH 2, pH 8.5-9.0, late afternoon temp. 25 Celsius, morning temp. in very nearby, same type of habitat 15 Celsius. (He speaks of how the sun raises the temp. throughout the day, like posted in this thread earlier.) Slow flowing water with lots of plants.

Nanhkwy stream/river near Myitkyina
Badis corycaeus, Dario hysginon

85 µS, GH 3.5-4.0, KH 2, pH 7.8-8.0, temp. 20.5 Celsius. The stream is 100 m wide with flowing water. Fish caught near the banks."

That's the same locality as Puntius erythromycter mate. Bit more habitat info here. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Happy to report that I now have lots of newly hatched fry from these beauties. Too small to get a picture of though, they really are tiny.
