My assistant having spent an hour practicing his skill at using the Cast Net, dashed of to the small river to the North of the Lake. This stream is part of the San Pedro drainage system.

At nightfall I was presented with a 10 inch Pleco, the same species as is found in the San Jose Park.
Now we know the source of the fish in San Jose, employed as janitors to keep the water feature clean.

Thanks Mark. I have now moved him to an outside tank so that he will have plenty of alga to eat. He is very placid but has fearsome spines on his pectoral and dorsal fins.
During the move I saw the spectacular striped dorsal fin extended. They certainly deserve the name Sailfin Catfish.
They are established in the Mexican State of Chiapas, my neighbour, which has the Rio Usumacinta as a border with the Peten. The Rio San Pedro Martir is a tributary of the Usumacinta which makes the location of my discovery valid.
