I was having difficulty getting photos of my Danio Maegahalayensis but ended up altering a couple of settings on my Nikon D40 and got some good shots, I altered the focus to auto and set it to continuous servo focusing and set it to constant shooting and basically followed a fish with the button pressed taking tons of photo's and quite a few came out nicely.
The other method is to remove them to a photo tank which I got very good results with but less natural.
