I managed to pick up 3 very nice Hypsibarbus wetmorei yesterday, I have fancied these for a while and they were a good price, I just wish I had grabbed another 3 while I was there

Very nice mark. You'd better hide them from Andy /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

I have been updating the Hypsibarbus profiles today and noticed that in both Kottelat's 'Fishes of Laos', and Rainboth's 'Fishes of the Cambodian Mekong', H. wetmorei is mentioned as possessing orange to red pectoral, pelvic, and anal fins. This can be used to distinguish it from its very similar congener H. vernayi, which has yellow pectoral, pelvic, and anal fins.

These two also share the same distribution and am guessing both appear in the trade, so I wonder if we have been misidentifying the 'lemon-finned barb' all these years?

Hi Matt ,I always thought Wetmorei was the Lemon Fin most commonly found in the trade ,although I'd always thought the common name a little odd because to my eyes the fins look yellow ,not lemon which I assume to be a pale yellow Confused  but not orange ! so if we are going by the colour then it would appear that they are indeed Vernayi  ?

I have in the past kept a couple of H .malcolmi which did have lemon/yellow Frownfins Smile with a reddish outer border on the caudal , very nice !

Wouldn't it be great if these books had colour pics of the fish at different stages of their lives/size ! there would be less room for confusion .

Thanks Andy, it certainly would, yeah! I've included the yellow-finned fish as H. vernayi for the time being.
