I have a very successful community tank comprising cardinals, harlequins and dwarf corydoras (plus a few shrimps).

Although Java fern, Amazon frogbit and floating oxygenating plants thrive, I really don't think my 15 watt T8 Day-Lite tube gives out sufficient light for some other plants to grow successfully. Does snyone have any knowledge of the Juwel Monobloc hood on this tank and have any suggestions for possible lighting upgrades/supplements? There is very limited space under the hood

I did wonder about installing a strip or two of the LED lights sold on eBay but there is no indication of light output or spectrum. Any ideas please?

You used to be able to get interpet T5 compacts that you could fit into the hood - not sure if you can still get them or not? I used to use them a lot, probably got a pic somewhere. Alternatively you can lose the hood and replace it with the Hagen Glo system:

http://www.seapets.co.uk/produ.....ter-fishes...glo-t5-39w.html

You need to be carfeul when upping your light as if you don't have plenty of plants in there and the right balance of ferts and CO2 then the extra light can become an algae generator.

You should be able to comfortably grow anubias, limnophilia, small Echinodorus species (parviflorus for example), vallis, sagitaria, java moss and Hygrophilia in a Rekord 60. They won't grow particularly quickly (although the limnophilia may surprise you) but they will grow.

How old is the tube? if over 12 months you may want to replace it as the light output would have dropped off a bit. Also how long have you got the light on for? A heavily planted tank could do with 12 hours a day. 8-10 hours is good for less heavily planted.

The Hagen Glo system looks nice but price bit higher than I would like to pay. Am interested in the Interpet idea. I'll see if I can find out more.
Tube is about 6 months old and on for 8 hours each day. Vallis is something that just seems to fade away when I try it but I have to confess that I am not feeding the plants although I'm sure I probably should be. Do you suggest any product in particular?

Attached is a quick pic of my tank at the moment to give an idea of planting density.
