Hi Guys,

I'm just wondering if anyone has used moss balls for creating a carpet? I'm thinking that if I cut a couple open and flatten them out would they grow as a carpet? I only want to cover a small area of slate.

Cheers in advance! /thumbs_up.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="thumbs_up.gif" />

you could mate, no reason why they wouldn't grow accross the slate. Would it look better just to buy loose moss and tie it to the slate though?

I wasn't sure if you could buy similar moss in flat pieces. So either way, if it works I'm happy! /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

yep, it'll work, just use some thread to tie it onto the slate and it will soon take.

You can buy loose moss - lots of different varieties too.

Moss balls are´nt exactly a moss but a species af algae and they are very slow growing. So even if you could use them as lawn I wonder if you´d have the patience, I know I wuoldn´t.

Yes man you can.. WHat you call moss ball is cladorophra, a common algae finally.... just flat it in small pieces and with a lot of patience (months..) it will make a nice carpet.... You could also do it by mixing some fissidens and some piece of pouzzolona or akadama and it will do the same, quicker...
