I had a rather nice piece of bogwood in my large tank but it got so thick with black brush algae that I threw it into the garden about 2 or 3 months ago. I've just found it again and put it in a bucket of water to soak.

The girl in the LFS said about spores living on after the algae has gone, would I be better just leaving it for frosts to kill of the spores, or can I just soak if for a while and then use it in a smaller tank? And, will the BBA ever come back again?

I'd just boil it if you can fit it in a pan or tip a load of boiling water on it in the bath if it's that big. That should kill off the nasties.
