I have two African Butterfly fish (Pantodon buchholzi) & 1 Siamese Fighting Fish (Betta Splendens) which contradictory to what some believe do get on together, what I want to know is will the Pantodon’s accept (I suspect they will) pre-packed dead Crickets? I have been feeding them live but just in case I run out of these I would like to know if dead ones will be a good substitute.

Any suggestions on any other pre-packed food that will float on top of the water that they will take?

When I had a pair of P. buchholzi many years ago I fed them several chunky foods. Plankton (frozen and freeze dried), frozen squid (highly nutritious), freeze dried bloodworms. I also had mealworms (easy to culture year-round in an old fish bowl) and the beatles if dropped on the water surface near the fish would really get them excited. Some of the prepared foods will sink, so I used a small piece of broomstick to "spear" the chunk of squid, etc. The fish would almost leap up to get it.

My two love Hikari Cichlid Gold baby pellets, but they also readily eat small pieces of Doromin/Cichlid XL floating sticks and Tetra Prima. When they are brave enough, I drop defrosted bloodworms onto the end of their upper jaw as a treat, using a pipette.

I was shocked how readily mine adapted to non-live food, given what is often written in online profiles.

Constantly juggling mainly African riverine fish between 6 tanks, from 54 to 566l in size!

Thanks you 2. Ill try that.

I got a container of freeze dried Krill but they dont seem too keen on them so I feed it to my Brackish tank fish who do like it so not a waste of money. I have been feeding them live Crickets as I use them also on my Brackish fish but even tho the Butterflys have big mouths for their size & the Crickets are medium sized they have trouble with them so next time I'll buy small.

They take most floating dried foods no problem ime, yet another KB profile that requires editing I'm afraid. /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

Me again!

I got small Crickets & I think they ate them but def' did see them eating daphnia. feed day again today so Ill keep an eye on em to make sure about the small Crickets. Wonder why they didn't seem keen on the freeze dried Krill then! I'll try them again but smaller pieces.

Thanks
