Some considerable time ago we obtained some fish from BAS, imported as Rasbora wilpita. There have been other fish imported under this name, slightly different head shape, I don't know which are the true fish, hence my use of cf. in the title.
Earlier today we were doing some work on that tank when something was spotted drifting through the water.

Further looking revealed more! This time there was a bit more substance to the object.

There only seems to be one female who has spawned, but it has to have been staggered looking at the differences in development, some have already hatched since lunchtime! Very large eggs so we are hopeful of some success, they are all now in a 12 gallon tank, there may be a very few eggs left in with the adults but we think we've got enough.

Great photos Pete

what are you using for the pics?

There are wilpita on the Singapore lists just now, pretty expensive too. It lists Sri Lanka as location for the species on offer

cheers
Colin

Love the pics Pete, are the fish being maintained alone?

Will send you something that might help you identify your fish.

They are. They have spawned in the past, but we've only ever come into work to find empty females and males with silly grins on their faces.

I think the main difference was our new automatic feeder, seems to have perked the fish up no end.

Is this a reference to the latest work experience 'sacrificial lamb'?

Also, should I alter the thread title to cf. dandia?

They look to be a fairly large fish Pete? are they substrate spawners or scatterers amongst plants?
