I've got some new fish in my tank, and their home grown! My puzzle is that I have what seem to be three male Lineolata and one female spotted... But these look like pure Lineolata.

What do people think?

So far i've spotted two.

No which is why i'm puzzled. I emailed Mark last week about this and he seemed certain that Spotties and Lineolata wouldn't interbreed. They look like young spotties after looking at this page: http://www.loaches.com/article.....images/sew...mposite2Jpg.jpg

The spotted female was an exchange for my Macrobrachium at my local MA after they miss-sold them too me...

I'm worried I may of hoovered some of the fry up when younger as I only seem to have two. Unless the Panda Garra has eaten them. After reading Emma Turners info on loaches.com I may check my external filter, but I put a sponge over the intake to prevent this.

Is there any chance eggs/fry may have been transported in the bag or have you had the female for a while?

I've had the female about 8 months. The males I've had just over a year.

Well the fry is still growing, here is how he looks today.

The markings seem to blend both parents atm.

IMHO, the pattern development is not what I have observed with either species here but more toward spotties.... Very interesting indeed.

Quite a few changes and more good news!

The first fry is starting to look like the parents now!

The extra good news is that they must of spawned again! This is another young fry in the tank!

Err, Ph7.4 I've never done a hardness test, but from the lack of limescale on my kettle i'm guessing pretty soft... I only do the usual ammonia etc tests otherwise...

Err, I'm starting to get over run! I now have 5 fry! The first and biggest is now getting caught up by the second in size and I've noticed 3 more younger fry in the tank!

I took some photos yesterday i'll try and upload them.

Hey Hokum,
How are your fry progressing?
I hope you don't mind if I join your thread instead of starting another sewellia fry thread. I've had 3 s. lineolata for a few years now but never any fry. Previously there were 2 schistura savona (always FAT!) in the tank and now there is a very portly sicyopus since the schistura have passed on. I've always figured that these predators were cleaning up the fry.Last water change I decided to have a real good check of the bottom of the bucket with flashlight & magnifying glass. Sure enough, lots of tiny little larvae flitting around. These things are TINY! The larges might be 1/16th of an inch, I think that's about a mil & a half? No wonder I've never seen them before. How many have I sent down the drain?? For now they're living in a plastic container with an air hose, no heat.
