Much to my surprise my algae growing tank has fish fry in it! I had moved some moss which had CB growing on it to the tank as i've noticed that the amount of algae in the tank out competes the CB and it has been going well. Well i was sitting putting my socks on (the tank is in a spare room with a nice big window and I was looking out over the high peaks) and noticed something much larger than the Cyclopes darting about.

3 fry! They look to be well over a week old, and seem to be quite happy.

Now the tank is only 12 litres and pretty green, what should i do and when should i move the fry?

I'm guessing their in the perfect place for the time being? Low flow, sponge air filter and lots of little food things to eat.

I’m worried as I haven’t done a water change in that tank for a few weeks, should I leave it?

Maybe do a small water change with part fresh and part mature tank water but I wouldnt worry, I have had exactly the same thing happen with white clouds and I just left them and after a couple of months they were big enough to move to another tank.

It is nice when you get this sort of surprise /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I agree with Mark, be sure not to change much water. Three fry at that size are going to produce minimal waste and it sounds like there's lots of good stuff in there for them to feed on.

Which high peaks can you see from home? /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Cool glad to know they should be ok, i'll do some small water changes.

I'm near Glossop, so i can see Bleaklow and the edge of Kinder Scout.

What do fry of Danio type fish eat in the wild?

Well i'm down to two fry now, but they seem to be eating ok, i noticed them both having a poo. I'm beginning to think they aren't WCMM's. The bodies are beginning to colour up and are looking orange with red eye highlights. I think their Glolight Danios. I didn't notice them spawn but they must have been!

seeing as this thread has danios...

just found about 20 fry in my community...99.9% they're leopard danios...didn't expect any, as I thought you had to do loads of water changes to get them to breed?

well atm I have only microworms to offer, do you think they're enough?

also, in the tank have a pair of silver dollars - what do few hrs fry look like? cause could be them or the danios, and never saw any of the fry live - although these are very small !, at most being 8hrs old when I found them (from last checking to morning).
