It has taken several days for our Yellowjacket to settle. He now swims about the tank with confidence. He even comes towards me when I approach the tank.
All the writeups mention that his diet is other fish. We have found this to be true. He investigates when I feed the goldfish but makes no attempt to eat.
During the day I add some young fry to the tank. He notices them but makes no attempt to catch them. The next morning they have gone.
He is now an addition to the work load. Fry from the Lake have now to be brought up from the Lake and housed in one of my small holding tanks. It is fortunate that I have eager helpers to catch the fry.
It is possible that at the end of the year when Lake temperatures drop down to about 23° C spawning may stop. Hence no food for Freddy.
