Hi Guys,

I restocked my sons shrimp tank two weeks ago with 30 Red Cherries and this week I added:

5x Tiger Shrimp (Caridina cantonensis)
5x Sakura Shrimp
5x Sunkist Shrimp (caridina propinqua)
5x Ninja Shrimp (Caridina serratirostris)

The question is, will any of these shrimp kill the other? I've now seen two shrimp being eaten today both times by a Tiger and Cherry or Sakura. I'm not sure which species is being eaten if at all the same, but either way they're being eaten. I can only see one Sunkist and one Ninja moving around the tank, but that doesn't mean it's either of that species being eaten, but does push up the odds. I'm thinking that maybe one or two of the newly added shrimp have died of stress during the whole process and now are being eaten, but I'd like to know for sure.

Thanks in advance! /thumbs_up.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="thumbs_up.gif" />
Neil

Neil. i am not aware of any of those species you mentioned being cannibalistic. more likely they are eating dead shrimp.
it takes a while, but most dead shrimp will turn pink after death. are you sure they are not just picking at the sheaded exoskeleton after a molt ?

Absolutely positive Keith, they're eating the whole body not just sheaded exoskeleton. As I said earlier, I believe they're eating dead shrimp, but that's gutting in itself as it seems my new shrimp have died off! I've seen four Tiger, one Sunkist, two Sakura and what I think is one Ninja at any one time. I may have seen more than one Ninja if they're mimicking my Cherries, but I'm not sure if they're that good at disguise! The one I have seen seems to have a greenish stripe on it's back and seems quite shy, but that's the only one. /sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

Another one is getting eaten this morning…by a Tiger and a Cherry again! /sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />
