I saw some of these in an lfs today and they look great but werent available as they just came in.

Tylomelania sp. Yellow Rabbit, White Spot Rabbit, Yellow Antenna, Gold Spot Rabbit and Chocolate "Poso" snails.

There is an article on PFK about them.

http://www.practicalfishkeepin.....co.uk/pfk/....php?blogid=243

Has anyone got any? I'm getting some tomorrow /cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="B)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" /> maybe just a couple as they can grow to about 3-4" /ohmy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":o" border="0" alt="ohmy.gif" />
The shells were between 1-2" long. I'll get pics up when they settle in my tank /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

I saw some of these down at Peterborough a few weeks ago and again at BAS yesterday and they do look cool creatures, at both places I also saw the new ones with the spikes all over their shells now they look very weird.

Hi Richy,

I've got some of these snails, probably from the same lfs as you! Tyne Valley??

I bought 4, now have 6 with 2 babies /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="Laugh" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> They are great snails, quite active and eat most things, though not eaten the plants. I think they are gold spotted, but have nice coloured shells too.

I would be interested to see some photos of your snails, here are a few photos of mine I have managed to capture:

One of the baby snails!

Hi, it may have been me who sold you them, and yes it was that shop /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
What you have is what the supplier called "yellow spot" . Next time you're in, i'll charge you extra since you have babies /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="Laugh" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
I've been doing a bit more research and there seems to be a few different varieties, some yellow spot, some yellow smudge etc.
For the last 2 weeks people have been saying, i got babies, and the shop has 5 that i know of but i hadn't seen any in my tank and have been in a big strop like a child /sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> .........until about 20 mins ago /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> I saw a yellow antenna baby /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
I have 1 of each type in there so i now have 6 and all seem to be doing very well so far.
I'm trying to get photo's of them all and get the proper latin names to go with them.
For now, i'll use the common names I was given from the supplier.
Here is what i've noticed with mine.
Most active in order;
1. yellow
2. chocolate "poso"
3. white spot
4/5. yellow spot & yellow antenna

They all seem to go anywhere, on sand and gravel (prefer sand though apparently) glass, wood but i havent noticed them on my plant, but its a type of java and too small to get on anyway.

I also have noticed, the yellow, chocolate "poso" and white spot seemed to be up and about straight away, never stops after acclimatisation. The yellow spot and Yellow antenna were active at first for about 5-10 mins then pretty quiet for a day or so.

The bright yellow one in the article pinned on the wall may be an "orange" not yellow as the publication says. As these are pretty new right now there will be many common names and confusion floating about. I say, just enjoy them /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I'll post my pics when i get them off the camera and edit, have some fish pics to edit and post to /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
I'm not sure who you are but probably do know you. Were you in yesterday buying dwarf green shrimp late on? How did you find SF, was it me whom gave you the webiste? I'm the only one from there who is on here /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
What temp is your tank at, mine is about 26c /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
I'll have to look into it but i'm wondering if the yellow smudge and spot are the same ones but just different ages???
Great pics and glad you have some babies too /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

EDIT* clean your glass you dirty b*gg*r lol

Hi, yes it must have been you, and yes you mentioned this site /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="Laugh" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> I did buy some green shrimps late on, live near Bp Auckland, but visited relly's up in Blaydon so called on way home! Tyne Valley has nice selection of shrimp, are you getting any Tigers in sometime??

Next time I call I should get a discount for free advertising!! /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="Laugh" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
I've had the snails nearly a month now, 1 baby appeared about 2 weeks ago, then another yesterday, very happy they are doing well. Glad you found one too, its great when you do isn't it!
I have my tank at 27c and all seems ok, they travel all over, up the glass, mainly on the sand, leave cool trails in the sand.

As for food, they eat most pellets (bloodworm, algae, green mussel as well as others) cucumber, & peas/corn.

Orange snails would be great and unusual, did you have any of those in?

Cheers.

Yes, let them get on with life lol. They don't lay eggs either, they hold them and the babies grow tucked up inside the shell then they release little ones. I think the article said they're held on the right side in the shell. I have 2 babies now, yellow antenna and 2nd might be either white spot or yellow spot

Matango, no there wasn't any "orange" but beleive me, they're next on my snail wishlist /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="Laugh" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> I've seen them on a different suppliers list and were a bit dearer. I'll contact the main supplier tomorrow.

I must put my snail pics on soon or you lot will think i don't have any here at home lol Keith HAS seen the pics though /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> I guess he'll deny it though lol /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

Hello, does anybody know if keeping these lovely snails in hard water at 74f does them any harm? these were the conditions that I found them in at a local aquatic outlet, and, does anybody know where I can buy the orange bodied elephant snail that looks so good in the PFK article?
Regards,
Phill.

hi Phill
i keep these in ph 7.4 at about 74-76 and i've got a few youngsters from them all.
i recently picked up some yellow rabbits, not sure what the orange bodied ones are, i've only seen the yellow, white spotted, gold spotted, yellow antennae and elephant.
there is a seller on ebay advertising a few different ones, a little more than you would pay at the shops, buti've got the yellows off him and good snails and service. see if richy has been able to get any more.

I have finally found some of the orange Tylomelania, they are exquisite! They are in Aquajardin near Southampton, sadly, they are in a tank with of Serpae Tetras, so there is a chance that their antennae may get nibbled!

i do like the orange ones, i saw some in maidenhead aqautics near carlisle yesterday, but they were very small and a bit over priced, so i left them, i did however get some brotia pagodula. will do a write up of them asap.
