I have a new 40 gallon tank and I'm trying to plan what to put in it. Here is what I am thinking so far.
2-3 Bolivian Rams
6 glass catfish
5 Corydoras aeneus
1 Bristlenose pleco
1 rubberlip pleco
3 black kuhlis
Is this good? Could I maybe add a few brown pencilfish or julii cories? I'm going to keep it open top btw. I will have two filters going at 200 gph each. Thanks for your help
Overall stocking level looks fine, but I'd be inclined to leave out the kuhlis as most of the fish are bottom dwellers. For that reason the pencil fish would provide a good visual balance, but make sure you provide them with plants to shelter in. The glass cats will appreciate the planting as well. Lastly, I'd stick to a MF pair of rams.

Thanks for the help! I think I am going to keep the kuhlis because I already have them, and I don't have the heart to give them away, and since they usually hide during the day and can't possibly contribute much to the bioload, I think they should be fine. I will try to get a pair, but if I can't get a for sure pair can I just get two from the store one that looks male and one that looks female? Do you think that the pencil fish would jump out? I'm also thinking about marbled hatchets, but I guess those would probably jump, or maybe mosquito rasboras or dwarf rasboras for the top dwelling fish instead of the pencils. I guess it depends somewhat on which fish I can find.
Makes a difference that you have the kuhlis already
Can be tricky sexing rams at a young age, but here's the profile to help.
Unless your tank is open topped I wouldn't worry overly about jumpers. That said, hatchetfish do have a reputation for jumping which pencilfish don't. I'd think that mosquito rasboras would be a bit small for a 40G, but would be visible in a large enough group.
