Hi All. I Bought 3 Male Guppys On Friday And Introduced Them To My Tank Which Contains Tiger Barbs,Cherry Barbs,Mollies,Peppered Corys & Dwarf Neon Rainbow Fish. Almost Immediately The Guppys Were Attacked By The Tiger Barbs And Unfortunately 2 Of Them Had Their Tails Virtually Destroyed.I Know The Tiger Barbs Are Fin Nippers But I Have Never Seen Them Attack Anything Other Than Their Own.I,ve Now Moved The Guppys Into A Breeding Tank So They Are Isolated From The Tiger Barbs.I,m Not Going To Introduce Them Back Into My Tank As They Will Only Be Attacked Again. As I,m New To Fishkeeping Can Anyone Give Me Advice As of What to do Next & Will The Tail Regrow.
Main risk is of the damaged tails getting infected, so do water changes several times a week until the tails have healed. A mild anti-bacterial like Melafix can help but hold off on any other medications unless you see a problem.
