I have bought a second hand tank which I thought would be fine. It arrived and I could smell saltwater and there was some old substrate which seems to be crushed coral. I removed the substrate the best i could and rushed into putting new substrate in. In doing so I didnot rinse the tank out. Do I need to start again or will the water be safe. (I have rinsed the filter and filter parts.)

Ps the previous owner said that the tank was only used for a few days( /huh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="huh.gif" /> ).

Pps the tank is 99Lx47Wx60H (cm) and 215L

Thanks
Matt

Ideally you should have given the tank a good scrub out first but if there is still old crushed coral in there it wont be a problem unless you are aiming for an acidic blackwater tank or similar.

depends how much was left I suppose?

cheers
Colin

I might take out the gravel and give it a scrub after that.
Thanks.
Matt.
