Hello

I have a 20 gallon long, with T5 lighting, liquid CO2, weekly ferts, sand substrate, planted, pH of 7.8, and catappa leaves.

My stocking is

2 Peacock Gobies (male/female)

2 Sparkling Gouramis (male/female)

4 Kuhli Loaches

2 Amano Shrimp

4 Cherry Shrimp

4 Pink Jewel Tetras (letting them die off)

I realized that all of my inhabitants albeit the gobies all come from southeast asia.  To keep this general habitat going, I would like to replace all of my tetras with a species of either microrasbora or any kind of suitable barb, danio, or rasbora.  I'm going for peaceful demeanor torwards tankmates and themselves, and I'm looking for schoolers, not shoalers.  Currently, I really fancy the Mosquito Rasbora, Eyespot Rasbora, or Harlequin/Espei Rasboras, and Gold Spot Danios.  I've never had expiericance with any of these species before so if anyone could give me advice, comments, and remarks on any of these listed species and their compatibility with my tank that would be very helpful.

My future stocking will be:

2 Sparkling Gourami (male/female)

2 Peacock Gobies (male/female)

6 Kuhli Loaches

2 Amano Shrimp

15+ Cherry or other neocardinia shrimp

8-12 Schooling Fish

Welcome!

I've kept Boraras brigittae, Trigonostigma heteromorpha and T.espei at various times and all would be good choices.  Can't comment on the danio though.

Mature, sensible signature required for responsible position. Good prospects for the right candidate. Apply within.

Hi there crossfire.
From my experience, all the species you name as a possible are rather shoalers than schoolers. In an Aquarium they would only school if they are under predatory stress and then they would do that where you can't see them. However, in a tank sized like yours and considering that all other planned species exept the gouramis are bottom dwellers, you could easily add a Group of as many as 20 Boraras maculatus or B. brigittae. With those numbers you'd always see quite a few of them together.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
R.
