When I bought my guppies, they where all supposed to be male...

I have since found out one of them is female, and tonight she's been swimming face to face with one of the other fish, and then they keep chasing each other around the tank and swimming side by side!

She's also turning into a bit of a fatty... Am I right to expect my tanks population to increase? /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="Laugh" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Yer mate - you've just described the guppy "mating ritual" rather accurately.

Congratulations, you'll soon be the Godfather of between 5 and 100 baby guppies /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

Heh, no. I would say the average brood size is about ~30.

As I mentioned to you on MSN, it would probably be worth you investing in a floating net breeding trap; especially if you have 5 males and 1 female - she'll be non-stop harassed.

Good luck with them. Dunc, where would she place her eggs or would they just scatter?

As I mentioned to HT the other day, Guppies, like Platties, Mollies and a number of other less well known tropical fish, are livebearers - the fish are born effectively fully formed.
