I’ve seen some very nice Cockatoo Apisto’s at my local fish store, but I’ve been wondering how well they would do if I put them in my tank.

I know cichlids, even the friendly ones can be finicky, but on a whole I was wondering how some females (or one male) would do in a tank with a single Bolivian ram and a group of Congo Tetras + assorted Rainbows and Amano shrimp. I previously had problems with a Kribensis cichlid as the quick movements of the congos as they raced around the tank would bother her and she would be quite mean to everyone in the tank and would often kill/attempt to kill any amano shrimps she could find. She has since been moved to a much calmer tank where she is very nice. The Ram is fine and perfectly at home, but I don’t know if they would clash?

The tank is around 60 gallons and heavily planted.

    Thanks in advance.

I have kept these dwarf cichlids with discus, cardinal tertras, bleeding heart tetras and bristlenose catfish. They did well in a planted tank with these tank mates.

You need to provide them with a cave(s) for security. Strategically positioned caves mean that you will be able to see them but I fear that they may be elusive in a heavily planted tank.

    Cheers,

    John
