Ive had these fish for months now and still cant spawn them!! i received these as youngsters in a batch of wild fish from Peru aprox 4 months ago, ive grown them on and several weeks ago placed two pairs into the breeding tanks, neither pair have spawned yet but things are hotting up and it should not be long now!!
I caught one pair flirting yesterday
And the second pair are also looking ready.

I’m Apisto mad if I could get my hands on them, but my water needs some work to keep it soft. I think that’s why no-one in my area seems to bother and I can’t get the stock. I’ve only managed the obvious ones so far: A Cacatuoides and A Macmasteri. Couldn’t get my A Agassizi to spawn. I’m just experimenting with softening my water (for the first time, probably why my Agi’s didn’t spawn) with the aim of getting A Borellii but I want something like this, a bit different, in the longer term.
What’s your water like?

Very very soft Michelle, i often joke that its piped direct from the Amazon!! In reality im supplied by lake Verny in Wales and get fresh mountain runoff which reaches me very soft(aprox 45ppm) and neutral PH which quickly drops to around 6.2.. Perfect for the Soft water fish that i love so much.
January 14, 2012 at 9:21 pm #346802Jammy so and so. Mines up at 7.5 and hard as rock. The RO’s just gone in the tank so hopefully I’ll be able to stablise at something like sensible for Apistos.
Keep us posted how you get on with these guys.
