Due to some “technical” difficulties, the double-hexagon tank I mentioned in my other post is now lying in several pieces outside my house. :S

Yesterday I decided to purchase a replacement. It was a toss-up between a regular 35l tank with the trimmings, and a bare bones 60l tank – me being a genius, I went for the latter – primarily because I wanted to use a sponge filter. It looks like this.

But I’m having some problems with the Clearseal hood that came with the tank…

The first is that I don’t know how to fit lighting to the hood – there were some vague instructions on the inside of the hood about holes to screw something in, but there are no holes whatsoever.

The second is that the condensation tray – also included – doesn’t quite fit the tank. There are no “shelves” inside the tank for the tray to rest on, and placing it on top doesn’t work either as one of the edges will fall through.

Any help on how to resolve either of these things would be really useful.

Take both off and fit a luminaire?

I had thought of that, but there would be the risk of fish jumping out (not that I intend to make that happen!).

What are you planning to put in there?

At present I’m thinking of having lots of small fish (more rasboras!), and one or two larger fish as showpieces. I already have seven chilli rasboras and a male betta at home, each in their own tanks, but not sure whether to put them together.

I tried the condensation tray last night, and strangely enough it does fit – but I am still clueless about how to fit lighting to the hood.

Drill the hood and get some metal light clips from your LFS, they come with a little screw fitting, i’ll try and find a pic later.

Well I’ve solved the problem (for now at least)…

I couldn’t find any metal clips anywhere, so I found a small piece of wood and attached it to the hood, using it to mount the lighting clips. I had to use the wood because the raised parts of the hood (where the screws would have gone into) weren’t wide enough.

The hood now has a single 12″ bulb, which is something I guess.

If your still after some metal clips let me know and i’ll have a dig around the shed – i’ve got loads somewhere (my shed’s 20 foot long though so it may take a while to find them – I’ll start with the fish stuff and go from there!).
