    hi there, i have had a big problem,a filter pump burned out, and the tank smell was like bakerlight. the ammonia, and nitrite, and nitrate,has all gone high,i have done a 50%water change today. and i put in new filter wool, and a large dose of filter bacteria.i will give another water change tomorrow, plus i put a good does ammonia and nitrite and nitrate remover. has anybody got any tips, to help me overcome this problem. ulosky

    Not a lot to add beyond what you’re already doing – water changes, water changes and more water changes. Keep testing daily to monitor the results until the cycle bacteria colonies recover and can cope with the waste being produced by the fish.

    I’d also cut back on feeding just now to every second or third day. The fish will cope and the less they eat then the less ammonia they can excrete, which will help control the readings.

    I assume that it was only a mechanical pre-filter wool which you replaced and not all the media?

    thanks for the reply eyrie, the filter only had pre filter wool and some carbon, of which i dumped,fingers crossed
