I bought four GBRs on Saturday. Put them in a 20 gallon long isolation tank with two small loaches, three new chocolate groumi and three rainbow badis.

Three of the GBRs beat the hell out of another. Going by blue spots on the black spots, two females and a male attacked him or her. His color is so bad that I can’t sex him. S/he is in a two gallon with Java moss, Paraguard and is avidly eating brine shrimp.

    What is going on?

This is quite common in my experience – how sure are you that they are females?

I only keep Rams in single male/female pairs for this reason – they are very aggresive towards each other especially when it comes to protecting fry etc. a bit like most cichlids really.

GBR’s are very aggressive towards each other. Especially if you keep males together. Personally I would either keep 1 male and 2 females or just stick with 1 GBR.
