That’s my phonetic translation of “happy New Year” in Thai!

Sawat dii is the typical greeting…dii = good… Bi=year…. mai=year ….This is providing they are said in the proper tone. Each word can have 5 different meanings depending on the tone.

    สวัสดีปีใหม่

Read left to right? I thought Spanish was tough…

Yeah, left to right Matt. Grammatically, the language is simple compared to English(ridiculous!), but the tones are tough and of course learning a new script.

Having been lucky enough to have been in thailand for Songkran (thai new year) would it not be “sawasdee pe mai” or “suksan wan”?

Had a massive water fight with the hotel staff (it’s traditional to have water fights for thai new year) – kids thought it was fantastic.

That phrase is in Catalan mate. It’s ‘Feliz año nuevo’ in Spanish.
