    Hi all.
Here we have passed the 2000 members mark and not a single champaign cork popping to be heard!
How about a piece of cake then Matt!? 😀
    Congrats and regards
    R.

He’s hosting a visitor this week R so I’m not sure he’ll be active on the forums.

It is indeed a grand landmark though – the forums have never been quite as active as we would’ve liked but since we released SF v2 the memberships have grown steadily. When we moved, we were on less than 1100 users I believe – 900 users in 4 months isn’t too bad, though I’d like to see even more! :)

    As stated here:

Well, we want the site to become a useful and friendly resource and community for all levels of hobbyist, and in order to achieve that a few changes are in order.  Never kept a fish? No problem – some of our content going forward will definitely be of interest, while we’ll continue to feature plenty of stuff for more experienced aquarists as well.

you intend to convert somewhat in order to involve more people and the new version definitely ‘feels’ like it is geared towards that – I believe that must be where the spike in membership numbers comes from. At the same time though, I hope you can keep up the quality, which IMHO, is remarkable. I do not have any serious expertise in the subject, but I can normally tell waffle from information and it is information that we are being served here. Thank you!

With internet growing exponentially (and often with dubious content), there is arguably more need than ever for exactness and consistency, and amongst all hobbyist sites I have visited to date SF has always shined in this department.

Singing praises is normally boring, but hey – give credit when it is due. I might even drink a little toast to that later 😉

    Regards

Thanks for the kind words, l_auf.

However, on the contrary, we’ve made no major changes since our recent post – we’re hoping to start producing different content in a fortnight’s time or thereabouts. I think the steady rise is mostly down to the newest look of the website and its new features. I’m hoping to release some more user-engaging features over the next few months including a much better “profile” where users can store information about their aquariums and upload pics etc.

Our mission statement with Seriously Fish was always to produce a quality and accurate resource for fishkeepers. However, of late, I feel like we’ve specialised a little too much – I’d like to make sure that we can engage fishkeepers of all levels and experience with quality, accurate information and discussion.

Unless Matt and I both die and my drunken Uncle takes over the running of SF, we won’t compromise on quality – for anything. We can however maintain that quality and still expand our userbase.

Hah, I hadn’t even noticed! That is pretty cool and the membership has indeed increased much more quickly on the new version of the site.

Thanks a lot Rudi and l_auf, and don’t worry, we’re not going to change the base philosophy of the site, rather add more information about aquaria and how to keep fish in them, which I think is why we’re all here in the first place? 😀
