IMG_4815.jpgI got this tank at least 5 years ago when I still lived abroad, and when I moved to where i currently lived, I just let it sit, forgotten, in a faraway storage container. Through a weird series of events, it landed back in my house, but with it’s back glass shattered (Actually I shattered it). My days are pretty full, so I didn’t have time to repair it until a few months ago. Of course, that would have been too simple. I used the wrong silicone. It’s a good thing I noticed, because it would surely have killed off anything living in that aquarium. So I removed the silicone and tried again with aquarium silicone, and yesterday, I finally got to set it up. It’s 23cm in length, 30 in length and 27 in height, so it’s roughly a 20liter nano cube tank. It has an undergravel filter which leads into a sort of canister which can be filled with anything you want. That gives bacteria plenty of space to live in. The soil is about 3 litres of colombo flora soil black, and as you can see, it is very planted, although it looks much more planted when you see it for real. In there, there is :

    -2x pogostemon helferi

    -2x cryptocoryne wenditii green

    -1x nymphoides sp. Taiwan

    -1x echinodorus bleheri

    -1x hydroctyle tripartiata

    -4x limnophila sessiliflora

    -1x crinum calamistratum

    -2x microsorum pteroptus narrow

I will probably add some kind of a red plant to add some color and some of the have moss i have floating around in my other aquarium. All the plants come from Tropica Aquarium Plants. http://www.tropica.com/en/home.aspx As you can see, i also have two catapa leaves in there. I am using JBL ferropol and JBL ferropol 24 as fertilisers as well as DIY CO2.

The water is 50% RO and 50% water from my other aquarium, which has a pH of about 6.5. All that is in the new aquarium’s filter right now was floated in the older one for a week, and my plants were living in there too for about four weeks too, so it shouldn’t be long before it’s cycled and ready to go. I intend to stock it with otocinclus, shrimp, and i have my eyes set on a species of killifish, although i’m not sure which one yet.

Any suggestions? Any comments? Feel free to give me your opinion!

*Just to be clear, the title is actually a question, not an order.Laugh

Looks great. I’ never done a planted tank. I intend to give it a try in 2014. Probably in a 40 breeder with a pair of C. sajica.

Props on the DIY repairs too.
