A few pics from my first brood of P. pulcher. Haven’t managed to get the largest male and female they’re just starting to show some nice colour but too busy chasing the others around to pose for me.

After I forgot to turn the heater back on following a water change only 7 that time round. They’d only managed 13 themselves by that stage anyway, first timers and only in the tank a few days when they spawned so not surprising. He took over brood care at about three weeks last time and really went to town on her so I had to take her out.

But this time I’ve counted eighty, on the conservative side, and they’ve gotten past the three week marker without incident, though it was a touch and go for a few days if he was going to do the same again. I think he’s decided 80 is too many to handle on his own

Well done! I often find that quality is better than quantity with this kind of fish. Better to raise a few nice ones than hundreds.

I know what you mean. I’d prefer to grow on twenty or so of the second brood but they seem to be amazing parents
