ideally find a chinese supermarket – they will have everything you need to keep a puffer happy and save you a fortune… apart from that tesco and morrisons usually have raw squid and octopus as well as shell fish…

    Hi Brian,

They will eat pretty much whatever aquatic snail they can get in their mouths – only MTS prove a problem I’m led to believe.

ive herd that if you buy crabs claws and soak them in clean water it gets rid of the salt
?is thi viable or not ps…i droped a chunk of lunchen meat in the other day for the little ones
but as soon as i did this the puffer had it ….still alive.

No need to worry about salt in crab claws, just a rinse will be more than enough.
Luncheon meat might be good bait for pigfish and barbel, but it’s not ideal food for aquarium fish…

With a big Booboo you’re better off going straight to a company like PikePro and getting small frozen prawns or shrimps (shell-on), it’ll work out cheaper in the long run.
As Colin has said, many Asian supermarkets will have big bags of tail meat or whole shrimp, various sizes, pretty cheaply.
If you really wanted to treat it you could buy razor clams and peeler crabs!
