Carl Hubbs one of the World’s leading Ichthyologists led an expedition to Guatemala in 1935.
He discovered two species of cichlids in Lake Peten that we have not collected from here.
    Amphilophus.robertsoni (False Firemouth)and Rocio.octofasciata(Jack Dempsey)
He found these fish in the southern arm of the Lake which is East of the Island of Flores and North of the Santa Elena Airport. In his day the airport was a military airstrip.
This part of the Lake is shallow and quite stagnant being sheltered from the prevailing wind, therefore providing a different habitat from most of the rest of the Lake.
All things being equal and the weather continuing to be warm and pleasant we will take a launch here, next week, to see what we can find.
I attach some Satellite images showing the relationship with out base in San Andres.
