Any ideas chaps? P. narayani?
September 24, 2010 at 7:43 pm #318947Maybe P. setnai?
September 24, 2010 at 11:06 pm #318956Ooh pretty good call! The body looks too reddish for P. narayani right?
September 25, 2010 at 8:54 am #318962Maybe one of the Indian guys (or anybody else) can explain the difference between P. setnai and P. narayani?
To me both are very similar.September 28, 2010 at 7:20 am #319018I have the description of P. setnai at home so will check tonight.
October 1, 2010 at 9:29 pm #319075Seems this is P. narayani based on the three dark body markings. The first pic still confuses though because of the overall reddish colouration which I haven’t seen before in this species. Is it a male in breeding condition?
October 2, 2010 at 8:26 am #319079Hi Matt , there are possibly slight differences in colour amongst populations ?
Does Setnai lack the middle markings ?
October 2, 2010 at 9:38 am #319081Hi Andy the description says P. setnai lacks the middle marking in life but that it shows up when preserved. The other main difference stated is that the last unbranched dorsal fin ray is bony and serrated whereas in P. narayani it’s “weak” and “articulated”.
