    Greetings!

I am not as familiar with Discus as I am with other fish.  I’ve read that a black coloration on a Discus is usually the sign of disease or discomfort.  However at my LFS (The really good one) they had two BEAUTIFUL Discus for sale and I finally couldn’t resist.  One is colored very strangely though.  It has a bright metallic blue in its fins but the body is a flat grey color with interwoven jet black patterns.  That particular Discus had been in the heavily planted, water changed daily tank of the store for months so I don’t think the water quality is to blame though I am not 100% familiar with their parameters (Their pH is 6.5 and temp was 85 F).

Is this guy sick by any chance or could it be he is just a really uniquely colored specimen?  I’ll try and take a picture here as soon as I can.  He is maintaining the color in my quarantine tank and the pidgeon blood one seems to be happy as a clam too.

The issue solved itself.  Apparently he was just greatly stressed by something in the tank he had been in at the LFS.  His coloration corrected very shortly after my original post to that of a normal Cobalt Discus.  My water is a little softer than the LFS as well (5.5 pH versus their 6.5) and I suppose of all fish the Discus would appreciate that change greatly.  I also feed a diet to Discus that contains more vegetable matter than most use, including the LFS…so maybe that helped too?  Either way, thank you for the welcome!
