Is anyone currently keeping this species? I am trying to find info on water conditions suitable for this fish. From what I have read they need soft acidic water. I am also wondering if they would do ok in a tank with smaller mild tempered tetras (rummynose, cardinals, etc.) Also the level of difficulty for keeping this fish.

I kept them in soft and acidic water about pH 5 when i had them – they are excellent fish and do better in a group. Keep them like rummys or cardinals and you wont go far wrong

    cheers

Similar experience to Colin, although the pH was 6.4-6.6.  From memory they preferred slightly cooler temperatures (75F) and were simple to feed, taking flake as a basic staple.

    That’s a cracking specimen.

Just adjusted the thread title so the genus is correct.
