I picked up 8 Schismatogobius a few days ago thought I’d share some pictures and views about this fish. I originally brought a couple around 2 years ago but only have 1 left, so I have 9 in total.

They were sold as S. ampluvinculus out of all the 9 fish I think I either have 2 males and 7 females or 2 different species 2 of 1, 7 of another. The original fish being one of the 2, they have a very slightly different colour pattern and noticebly larger mouths.

Any way heres some pic to help (sorry about pic quality managed to drop my slr so have to use point ‘n’ shoot)

2 possible males original on the left

2 new ones, the one on the left has a much larger mouth the the one on the right

They are temporarily housed is two tanks one with dark sand the other lite, this shows their ability to adapt their colour to match their surroundings

I personally believe that there are just 2 males 7 females, rather than 2 different species. I’m sure I read somewhere that the males use there large mouths as a display, I’ve not seen any evidence of this yet though.
