I couldn’t believe my eyes today when I saw that we now have 5 sparkling gouramis instead of 4. The small one is already fairly big and I am impressed by its strength to survive all those deaths in the tank.
Reading the knowledge base I was meant to see between 70 and 180 eggs? Any other ideas how I might have ended up with one more fish? I am sure I only had 4 when i started. i counted them in the bag when I got them and also took them from the bag to the tank by fishing them out in the net one by one.I think I have a strange tank

May 6, 2008 at 9:43 pm #305312Well, I have had them for about 3 weeks now and they are about an inch long.
No idea what happened, or where the fish came from, but it is noticably smaller and also slimmer than the rest.
I haven’t lost anymore fish, but the whitespot is still on the ram, so another water change (30%) tomorrow and another course of meds.
May 8, 2008 at 12:09 pm #305340Bizarre..I can’t imagine they spawned with the medication going in. I’m sure you would have noticed at least some of the courtship or bubblenest. Maybe the wee one came in the bag and you didn’t notice or as an egg among some plants? Are you sure it’s a Trichopsis Sofia?
May 8, 2008 at 1:08 pm #305342I am sure, yes. he is almost as big as the other 4, but a lot more slender and about 1/3 shorter.
The only new plant I have put in in a long time is something that looks grass like. I counted them again and again, but there are definitely 5.
Ah well, I am not complaining and he/she is very pretty.
All the fish seem to be doing very well.

May 9, 2008 at 5:10 pm #305358Just looked up what bubble nests look like. And…erm, I had a lot of ‘froth’ at one point. I thought it was like a bacterial bloom and removed most of it during a water change
