For a long time now I have had some tiger barbs with several other species. At first they were fine but recently they have been killing off the other fish so I am getting a 250 liter and am setting up a biotope with them in it. I have been looking for info on the biotopes of the rivers and marshes they can be found in but have had no luck. Does anyone have any suggestions?

There’s a habitat shot in our profile but imo it’s still unclear what species is the aquarium tiger barb.

I find it hard to believe your barbs are ‘killing off’ other fishes though. How many do you have and can you describe what’s happening in more detail?

Well when I first got the tank there was them and some neons they never have done anything to them. Then I got some black neons and that was shortly followed by a few male and female guppies. A month or so after I got the guppies one the black neons died. I assumed that it had just died but then another died and another. And then those stopped but then the tiger barbs started killing the guppies. They ripped them apart they took off ones head and took another one played a sort of game with it.

Probably helpful to have some more details here. How many tiger barbs do you currently have, how big a tank are they in and did the other fish show any symptoms? It is likely that there was another reason for the black neon and guppy deaths, and the attack you witnessed may have been scavenging behaviour.

6 of them, the tank is an 89 liter, the only fish that showed anything is a guppy that was getting bloated.
