We caught a few of these in a low altitude hill stream in southern Sarawak, but what on earth is it? Guessing cypriniform and juvenile (?) but beyond that getting nowhere…

It’s got a very wide, terminal mouth, two pairs of short barbels (maxillary/rostral) and appears not to have much natural buoyancy. Also, we could only find it deep among patches of submerged leaf litter with Pangio loaches although there were plenty of open-water fishes about.

    Interesting… something toward crossocheilus perhaps?

Yep pretty close Mike – confirmed as juvenile Paracrossochilus vittatus by Michael Lo.
