Hi Kit, Sorry to hear you’ve had another death but all i can reccomend for now is, ride out the storm for a while, monitor all fish as you have been doing and don’t add anymore livestock and keep up with regular weekly gravelvac/water changes /smile.gif” style=”vertical-align:middle” emoid=”:)” border=”0″ alt=”smile.gif” />
    Keep your chin up Kit

How do you go about breeding these then chaps? Just let them get on with it?

Yes, let them get on with life lol. They don’t lay eggs either, they hold them and the babies grow tucked up inside the shell then they release little ones. I think the article said they’re held on the right side in the shell. I have 2 babies now, yellow antenna and 2nd might be either white spot or yellow spot

Matango, no there wasn’t any “orange” but beleive me, they’re next on my snail wishlist /tongue.gif” style=”vertical-align:middle” emoid=”:p” border=”0″ alt=”tongue.gif” /> I guess he’ll deny it though lol

Hi, it may have been me who sold you them, and yes it was that shop /laugh.gif” style=”vertical-align:middle” emoid=”” border=”0″ alt=”laugh.gif” />
I’ve been doing a bit more research and there seems to be a few different varieties, some yellow spot, some yellow smudge etc.
For the last 2 weeks people have been saying, i got babies, and the shop has 5 that i know of but i hadn’t seen any in my tank and have been in a big strop like a child /biggrin.gif” style=”vertical-align:middle” emoid=”:D” border=”0″ alt=”biggrin.gif” /> I saw a yellow antenna baby /smile.gif” style=”vertical-align:middle” emoid=”:)” border=”0″ alt=”smile.gif” />

I’ll post my pics when i get them off the camera and edit, have some fish pics to edit and post to /smile.gif” style=”vertical-align:middle” emoid=”:)” border=”0″ alt=”smile.gif” />
    What temp is your tank at, mine is about 26c /smile.gif” style=”vertical-align:middle” emoid=”:)” border=”0″ alt=”smile.gif” />

Hi Reva, i’d also go with Matt, at a guess it’s a mantis shrimp or pistol, probably a small mantis though. Mantis will also give you a good thump the speed of a bullet and yes it will hurt, size depending /sad.gif” style=”vertical-align:middle” emoid=”:(” border=”0″ alt=”sad.gif” /> They have such a fast thump it can genrate high heat too as its so fast it heats the water up as it’s “club” thumps on crustation shells etc, or your thumb hehe.
Most which are found in LR tend to be small and boring in colour but are still naughty given the chance. I would say, maybe upto about 50% of LR will have a small mantis in. You will hear it clicking mainly when the lights are off or dimmed or when food has been put in (lights on).
The amount of times i heard people saying, i hear clicking in my tank is unbeleivable lol but its 99% a mantis or pistol /smile.gif” style=”vertical-align:middle” emoid=”:)” border=”0″ alt=”smile.gif” /> Pistol digs tunnels/caves and the watchman, well watches and scurries back towards the pistol if any sign of danger. Mantis will be anywhere it feels safe, under, over, inside.
Try this, next time its heard, with the lights off, shine a torch (with red light) into the tank and aim for where the sound is coming from, you might catch a glimpse of it /biggrin.gif” style=”vertical-align:middle” emoid=”:D” border=”0″ alt=”biggrin.gif” />
Some people though, do keep them as a species only (for obvious reasons) and they can be very interesting, not for me though.
Try a google image search for “mantis shrimp”, or even youtube for a video aswell /smile.gif” style=”vertical-align:middle” emoid=”:)” border=”0″ alt=”smile.gif” /> Feeding also comes into a factor on certain corals too for some low light demanding ones /smile.gif” style=”vertical-align:middle” emoid=”:)” border=”0″ alt=”smile.gif” />

You say you have had it about 4 years now, how many others do you have? /sad.gif” style=”vertical-align:middle” emoid=”:(” border=”0″ alt=”sad.gif” />
Sometimes but not all, cloudy eye can be be a secondary infection due to an internal infection, this may also be affection the fish in other ways too.
I’m thinking Melafix and tonic salts but dont try it yet as i’m just guessing right now. I’m no vet either , just trying to get more info /smile.gif” style=”vertical-align:middle” emoid=”:)” border=”0″ alt=”smile.gif” />
Why was it being picked on though, was it just due to it being unwell?

Got 6 tonight and i’ve opted to put then in a 47litre tank with the misc cross bred shrimp for now as it’s right beside my laptop and i can monitor more closley. There is amass of fern in there and they have lots of room to hide, BUT………. they’re more concerned about chasing the shrimps grr lol Shrimps are faster though /smile.gif” style=”vertical-align:middle” emoid=”:)” border=”0″ alt=”smile.gif” /> I’ll get photo’s when they settle in better but i can see some lovely colours on pressumed males showing already /smile.gif” style=”vertical-align:middle” emoid=”:)” border=”0″ alt=”smile.gif” />

    Hey Richy

    Yes I was at Redby.

I was talking with Keith on the morning. Keith’s wife, Dawn, was helping Steve with the Show paperwork.

I was judging fish in the show hall and had a wonderful time. Sue, my sister, was sat in the auction with Stella Cowan. Sue has not been wonderful, health wise, for several weeks so I was allowed to sign and seal the cards so that we could make our way home soon after judging was over.

Are you coming down to Ryedale on the 26th?

    Regards David

Hi, i think i may have been standing at the back beside them both lol. I don’t think i’ll be at rydale but most probably will go to the next one on the west coast for catfish. 2 of my friends will be going and i’ll try and drag Keith along if he’s not working lol My friends are after some Barbatus sp

Two males or not depends on the tank size if you ask me, if its a 28 litre tank I wouldn’t keep two males in there, so rather split them up.

Btw, have you specifically ordered 4 females? Just asking because females are usually rare.

I ordered 25 mixed m/f for the shop but wont know what turns up until i call in on thursday teatime
