To my raw eyes, both curmuca and kolus look the same. : (

The biggest one I’ve seen till date was about 15 inches approx. The tail colouration was still very much prominent even at that size. I’ve heard they grow even bigger.

    Lovely fishes, Andy!

In the wild, I have seen them in schools of 3 to 6 fish. Recently, I did get a chance to tape a video of them in the wild. Will post that sometime soon.

I refer these as Indian native Xenotilapia, for the typical behaviour. : )

    QUOTE (Matt @ Feb 19 2011, 02:35 AM) < {POST_SNAPBACK}>
Wonderful, wonderful stuff Shankar! I have some questions:

    – what camera are you using?
    – how do you, personally, tell Barilius bakeri and B. canarensis apart?
    – what else is in that bag? Do I spy a Garra sp.?
    – has Channa orientalis ever been collected in Peninsular India to your knowledge?

Looking forward to the full species list and (hopefully) more pics of your booty. /tongue.gif” style=”vertical-align:middle” emoid=”:p” border=”0″ alt=”tongue.gif” />

Oops missed your post Matt! : (

    I use Olympus Tough 8010.

Regarding the Barils, IMO, bakeri has row of spots and canarensis have small bars. I’ll recheck that.

Yep, a Garra sp, the best looking one I’ve kept till date. Haven’t got a confirmed ID.

    C. orientalis has been reported in a paper as per Marc. Have asked him to look out for that paper.
