I know this is late on in the conversation but has there been any fish added? I think you could do some cool stuff with a 29 and mine saw a number of uses including a planted tank in the beginning. Funny because I’m originally from Puyallup and yeah the water is super soft was really good for my previous tanks but now I’m mostly an african cichlid guy. Waiting for some cool pictures

I would look into medium Eartheaters and maybe try some of the dwarfs if you want lots of color. I am currently in a nano phase so I personally would get something small but in a 75 I would probably go back to one of my favorites because it was the first fish I breed and raised completely back to adults, ‘Geophagus’ steindachneri or the very closely related G. pellegrini but these are not easily acquired. i would add some more of the Honey gouramis if you don’t want to go cichlids but both species of ram (Mikrogeophagus ramirezi and altispinosus) are actually really nice little fish that aren’t mean. I could also suggest some random things like angels, a firemouth, and lastly keyhole cichlids because they are so cute. I haven’t done any calculations about the stocking because I don’t know about your filters but those are just some random things to give you ideas. I would redo and do africans but thats just my opinion and I doubt you want to tear everything down and do African cichids

I saw this and I know you probably have something set up and running I hope you haven’t left the scarlet badis out. Dario dario really are super cute and they are really some of the only things that are small and have personality at least that would fit in a 5 gallon.

Going to get a trio of Dario dario today because the lfs got 11 in and I hope to get a male and two females. I will post pictures of the tank since I have really moved stuff around a lot and added some Echinodorus ‘Reni’ yesterday which will hopefully open up and look much better in a week or two.

I have forgotten to post in awhile and yesterday I got my fish and they are 4 Tanichthys albonubes which are just to make sure the food gets eaten and they will be going back to the store because they were 40 cents or so each. The main piece is going to be Sawbwa resplendens and I have 4 right now but later maybe this week but possibly next week I will be adding as many as the pet store has because I saw a female and I really want to try and breed which would be nice.IMG_1334.PNG

Yeah I’m not far from you actually. I’m in Eastern Washington and I just got black sand from the lfs and I want to add some random leaves whenever I find some. I’ll let them leach a little in a separate container to make sure my water doesn’t turn black too fast because I don’t like doing major water changes to keep the water to my liking. I hope to find a good stick or two because I don’t want to have to buy any and I know bringing the good ones from home would be annoying because I don’t have my own car.

Just filled up and the filter still works after being dry for maybe a year.

Probably going to be awhile before I get sand and even longer till I get fish but at least its basically set up.

Needs a heater and plants to help the cycle along.

I haven’t had a planted tank in awhile so I had totally forgotten about liquid fertilizers. I will definitely be doing sand because I’ve loved it in my African peacock tank. Will add some pictures of it once its all set up and cycling

Yeah the tank isn’t set up yet. The tank will have some plants but I haven’t got the substrate or anything really yet so I will have to really just see about the fish when I get there. I will probably be getting the tank this month.

You make another question come to mind. What sort of substrate will work good for this tank because I really like aquasoil but stuff like that is expensive and I really don’t want gravel because I haven’t touched the stuff in two years so I’d like to keep it that way. Would I be able to do sand with some sort of additive like black flourite sand to add nutrients for the plants? Or is there another way to add nutrients?

These look like brigittae to me. I had a group of eleven B. brigittae and one B. merah and the merah never really schooled with the brigittae and now I’ve got one B. micros and it doesn’t school either. They don’t seem picked on just separate from the B. brigittae

My recommendation is to add 12-18 of the Boraras of your choice, then to add the tetra/characin you want. I say Axelrodia riesei or the more common A. stigmatias as they are the smallest I’ve seen or the Hyphessobrycon amandae or Paracheirodon simulans as already touched upon. Lastly you need a bottom and for a 15 I have almost no idea besides the cories already said.

What do you feed them? I wonder what would make them breed (live food, water change, more tannins, cold/warm water change). Has anyone found trucks to inducing beta species to breed?

I had a second female to begin with but she died a week after bringing her home. If I was to get more M. ramirezi how many should I look at? I was thinking of getting 2 gold rams and in a few months maybe two Electric blues. I like the Golds more and I’m thinking that a pair of them would be enough.

I meant that they temperature is not high enough that any breeding might happen.

If I was to breed the Rams it would be in the empty ten gallon so that they would lay and then be moved back into the thirty. They always seem to eat their eggs and if they breed again I’m not letting them eat them again.

Hasemania nana Profile says that a small shoal would be okay in the thirty gallon. To quote the profile “It can also be kept with the majority of commonly available gouramis and dwarf cichlids.” So these are the two main reasons that I thought it would be okay
